One-Visit Root Canals in Cullman

Effective, Gentle Root Canal Therapy in a Single Visit

A root canal is a hollow area inside your tooth that contains nerves and other living tissue, which together is called the “pulp”. When the pulp has become infected by bacteria, it is often necessary to remove it entirely and seal off the tooth, in order for the tooth to be saved.

Dr. Bartlett provides root canal therapy that is gentle and efficient. We can take care of root canals in all teeth including most molars—for difficult cases, we will generally refer you to a trusted local specialist. Using advanced rotary instruments, our root canal treatment can usually be completed in one visit.

What Is Root Canal Therapy?

Root canal therapy is a procedure that is often necessary to save a tooth that has become infected all the way down to the pulp and nerve inside the tooth.

During root canal therapy, the infected pulp is removed, the bacteria are eliminated and the canal inside the tooth is thoroughly cleaned out. The canal is then filled with a rubber-like material and sealed off to prevent reinfection.

After the pulp and the nerves of the tooth are removed, the tooth is no longer alive. However, with proper care, it can still continue to function for many years, possibly even for the rest of your life.

Because teeth that have received root canal treatment are no longer living, they are more prone to cracks and breakage. It is therefore usually necessary to place a crown over the treated tooth, which will provide the added strength your tooth needs to continue functioning for a long time.

Root canal therapy is required when a tooth is infected or damaged (1). The top of the tooth is opened up to access the canals (2), pulp and nerve tissue are removed and the canals are cleaned (3), then the canals are sealed and the tooth is filled or covered with a crown (4).

High-Tech, One-Visit Root Canals

Dr. Bartlett uses special rotary instruments to clean out the canal faster and more efficiently. She also uses a special device to determine the exact length of your root canal to ensure that it is cleaned out fully. These tools make the procedure accurate, efficient and gentle.

Thanks to these modern tools, we can usually complete your root canal treatment in one visit. In most cases, right after your root canal has been completed, a temporary crown will be placed over your treated tooth, and you will come back for another appointment a few weeks later, at which time your permanent crown will be placed.
