Dental Implant

Our doctors recommend dental implants as the modern solution for replacing missing teeth.

A Modern Solution for Tooth Replacement

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a titanium post that is inserted into your jawbone where a tooth is missing, and is topped by an artificial replacement tooth (also known as a crown). A dental implant is used to replace an entire missing tooth, including the root. This has several advantages. Amongst others, it prevents bone loss in your jaw. It also prevents adjacent teeth from shifting around in your mouth, which could otherwise lead to various complications with your oral health over time.

Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, but they can also be used to support a bridge or denture that replaces multiple teeth. Whether you need one tooth, multiple teeth or all your teeth replaced, implants are considered the most stable, lifelike and durable option for tooth replacement that modern dentistry has to offer.

Experienced, knowledgeable implant dentist

Meet the Doctors - Dr. Kari Bartlett

Dr. Bartlett began placing implants in 2005 as part of her General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dallas, TX and has recently renewed her commitment to implant dentistry by completing a mini-residency with Alabama Implant Education. Due to her broad-based training in general dentistry, Dr. Bartlett and staff will be able to advise you on all the different options for tooth replacement that are available to you. She will explain to you the pros and cons of each solution, evaluate if you are a candidate for dental implants, and let you know what she recommends for your particular situation.

In most cases, Dr. Bartlett is able to perform all stages of implant treatment in-house—including placement of the implant posts. She will make sure that your implant-supported replacement teeth are durable, feel comfortable and look natural.

Quality Implant Treatment for a Lifetime of Functionality

Dr. Bartlett performs extensive preparation for your implant treatment, including 3D cone beam CT scans of your teeth, jaw and skull, when necessary. She will make study models of your teeth to work with in planning. When more than one implant is being placed, she will fabricate a surgical guide that fits over your dental arch and allows for efficient, precise insertion.

Dr. Bartlett and staff will make sure that every step of your implant treatment is performed with the greatest accuracy, so that your implants are stable, durable and will last you for the rest of your life.

Our Dental Implant Procedure

Implants look and feel like natural teeth and have many advantages over other forms of tooth replacement. Our doctors perform comprehensive, detailed treatment planning and will make sure that every step of your treatment is done right.

Detailed diagnostics

Cone Beam Scanner

Before your treatment planning, we will get a detailed view of your teeth, mouth and jaw area using panoramic X-rays and CT scans if needed.

Our dentists will start by performing a thorough examination of your mouth. We will take X-rays and, if necessary, we will also obtain a 3D CT scan of your teeth, jaw and skull, so that we can have a complete overview of all your oral structures. We will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants and go over your treatment goals with you so that we can make sure that dental implants are the right option for you.

Study model and meticulous treatment planning

Using high-quality impression material, Dr. Bartlett will make a detailed study model of your mouth, which she will use to plan out your procedure. She will plan your treatment in detail, including any necessary extractions, bone grafting or prior orthodontic work that might be needed.

Surgical guide

Dental Implants

For two or more implants, our dentists will use a surgical guide for precise placement.

When your treatment involves two or more implants, our doctors will fabricate a custom surgical guide to assist them in their placement. The surgical guide fits over your dental arch and has guide marks that indicate the exact position and angle of your implants, making placement precise and efficient.

Extractions

If you are using implants to replace teeth that still need to be extracted, Dr. Bartlett can perform the necessary extractions at the same time as placing your implants, if possible in your situation.

Bone grafting

Implants require a certain amount of bone to be present to be stable in your jaw and carry the load of your replacement teeth. If you have insufficient bone in your jaw for your implants to be stable, Dr. Bartlett can often perform a small bone graft at the same time as placing your implants to solve this problem.

Sinus lifts

Dental Implants

A sinus lift is performed to replace lost bone under the sinus area in the upper jaw.

When bone loss occurs in the upper jaw, it can result in the lowering of the floor of one or both of your sinus cavities, leaving too little bone for an implant to be placed. A special type of bone graft, known as a sinus lift, may be the solution in such circumstances. Dr. Bartlett can perform most sinus lifts in-house, and she partners with trusted local bone graft specialists for complex sinus lifts, should they be necessary.

Immediate replacement teeth

We understand that missing teeth can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed about smiling, especially right after any extractions. We will help you preserve the appearance of your smile at all times during your dental implant treatment, so that you do not have to run into any awkward situations.

If you are getting a single implant to replace a tooth in a visible area of your mouth, Dr. Bartlett may place a temporary replacement tooth immediately after implant placement, so that the appearance of your smile is not affected. The temporary will be crafted and placed in such a way that it will not put pressure on your implant, allowing for proper healing. Dr. Bartlett will give you full instructions on how to chew, eat and take care of your implant while your implant heals and your temporary is in place.

If you are having multiple teeth or an entire arch replaced, we can craft you a temporary denture or bridge so that you never have to be without teeth. When your implants have fully healed, you will receive your permanent, final denture or bridge.

High-quality final new teeth

We use high-quality materials and excellent dental labs to ensure that your final teeth are strong and durable, and look beautiful and natural.

The dentists at Dental Arts want you to like the way you look and love the way you feel, and will take great care to make your new teeth look just the way you want them. They will also make sure they are both very stable and comfortable. It’s very important to our doctors that you are happy, and they will take the time to get it just right so that you can walk out of our office with a new smile you absolutely love.

Who Are Candidates for Dental Implants?

In the past, not everyone was a candidate for dental implants. Some patients had too much bone loss in their jaw for implants to be stable, and patients with serious health conditions such as diabetes were also often not considered candidates. Thanks to recent developments in surgical techniques and implant dentistry in general, most patients can now enjoy the many benefits dental implants have to offer.
